Where did the term go?

I cannot believe we are already at the end of our first half term of the year!  While lots has happened, it seemed that if I blinked, I might have missed it.

We are really pleased with the way things have started here at the school, children have settled into new year groups, adults have settled into new routines and great learning is happening everywhere. Every half term, teachers will update their class page on the website so you can catch up on all their news and see examples of their learning.

Parents in School

It has been an absolute pleasure to have been able to invite so many parents back into the school.  The Stay and... Read/Learn/Solve sessions that have so many of you participating in learning opportunities with your children each week, the reintroduction of class assemblies, and the fantastic community event that took place earlier this week.  Our pupil leaders really enjoyed taking the opportunities to tell you about their roles and show you around the school, and parents shared that by learning about specific elements of the way we work helped them to get a better sense of their children’s everyday experience.  We hope to see even more of you at the next events that we will be continuing to run throughout the year.

Get Involved

Two of the elements that were shared yesterday were looking for more involvement from our parent community.

New Parent Governor

I am pleased to announce that we have a new Parent Governor, Jesper Hansen, who will represent our parent community and help to hold the school to account for the way we work and the outcomes for your children.

Following the request for parent governor volunteers I sent out at the start of this term, no one offered their services.  For this reason, I contacted the parent who came second place at the previous parent election last year and luckily, Jesper said yes.

Find out more about Jesper and the rest of our Governing Body here.

School Development Focuses 2022-23

One of the jobs of the Governing Body, is to make sure that Ainslie Wood continues to provide a strong education and experience for our children as well as continuing to develop.  This year, the agreed development targets for the school are:

1. Curriculum

That the Early Years Curriculum supports and challenges our youngest children so they can become confident, independent learners and that Project Based Learning is further developed in Years 1-6, so that children develop real life skills in real life contexts.

2. Consistency of Practice

That all staff are supported to deliver the Ainslie Wood curriculum to our expected high standards – this is particularly important as we have so many new members of staff across the school, and that leaders of all teams and subjects have the right support to develop their leadership skills positively.

3. Community

That Ainslie Wood and the Ainslie Wood Community are re-connected in order to have a positive impact on the pupils, their families and the workings of the school

We look forward to sharing more about the progress we are making towards our development focuses and our vision throughout the coming year.

As the leaves outside my office window turn red and yellow, my thoughts move to the things we have coming up in the next half term.  More class assemblies, the nativity, Christmas dinner week and the return of the Christmas Fair (it still feels too early to mention it!).  However ready for hearing about the festive season we are, we couldn’t be more excited to be getting back to all of these events and seeing you at them.

Have a safe and restful half term break and we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 31st October.
