Year 3 Autumn Term Update: A Fun and Creative Start to the Year!
Welcome to Year 3!
We have had an exciting and busy start to Year 3 and we’re thrilled to share what we have been up to:
In English, we have been diving into some imaginative writing! We kicked off the term with diary entries about our best day ever and our summer holidays. It’s been wonderful to see the creativity flow as pupils shared their favourite memories. We then moved onto poetry, which really came to life during our first trip to Ainslie Wood Forest. The children explored their senses while walking through the forest, using nature as inspiration for some beautifully descriptive poems.
Maths has been all about addition and subtraction this term. We have mastered the hundreds, tens, and ones column method, tackled tricky mental word problems, and used practical tools like number lines and Dienes blocks to help with our learning. The pupils are becoming experts at breaking down numbers!
Our project this term, ‘WE ARE Sculpting Scholars’, has been an absolute hit! We explored different materials, including natural resources found in nature, aluminium, and blocks, to understand the process of sculpture making. We also learnt about Ancient Greece and their awe-inspiring sculptures, columns, and iconic buildings like amphitheatres. The children are now in the exciting process of drafting their very own sculptures, and soon we’ll be moving onto using clay as a final medium to bring their creations to life!
We can’t wait for the next half-term—children will create their finished sculptures, and we will showcase them in a special exhibition for parents. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting event coming soon!
It’s been a fantastic start, and we’re so proud of all the hard work and creativity Year 3 has shown so far. Here’s to an even more exciting next half-term!
